Andres Alvarez

Partner

Andres Alvarez is a Partner at Creative Renewable Solutions (CRS). Both a computational scientist and an energy market specialist, he is responsible for leading client research and developing CRS's computational modeling tools. At CRS, Andres develops and maintains proprietary resource adequacy, capacity expansion, and project finance models that are leveraged by the CRS's clients to showcase the net value of site-specific wind, solar, storage, and green hydrogen assets. To date, Andres has investigated and modeled several WECC utilities including Puget Sound Electric, Portland General Electric, Avista Corp., PacifiCorp, and the Los Angeles Department of Power and Water.  Andres is also responsible for market research at CRS, performing GIS analysis of renewable energy sites, wind and solar energy resource modeling, utility IRP/RFP/Portfolio/Queue research, wholesale market analytics, and technology assessments.    

 

Prior to CRS, Andres worked in Avangrid's CEO office. In the CEO office Andres was responsible performing competitor, industry, regulatory, innovation, and sustainability analysis to support both the Avangrid and Iberdrola senior executive teams. While in the CEO office Andres would lead market intelligence and analytic efforts that informed and supported the Avangrid Networks EV strategic roadmap, the Avangrid Renewables battery storage strategy, and the Avangrid electric retail business implementation plan. After two years in the CEO Office, he later joined the Avangrid Renewables business and held roles in both the origination and market fundamentals groups. In his new role Andres led a renewable hybridization initiative for solar co-located on land utilized by the company’s 6.5GW wind fleet. He was also responsible for techno-economic analysis of renewable energy assets ,energy storage technologies and emerging clean energy technologies.  

 

In total, Andres has nine years of energy industry experience, working at companies, institutions and government agencies such as Iberdrola, the MIT Energy Initiative, the U.S. Department of Energy, and Argonne National Labs. Andres holds a B.Sc. in Nuclear Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a minor in energy studies from the MIT Energy Initiative.
